Willow Creek Pony Club

WILLOW CREEK Pony Club members are asked to print out their own Workbooks from the Canadian Pony Club website (www.canadianponyclub.org ), in their Downloads section.  These are helpful and informative for our members - especially in the beginning of the year as we prepare for Regional Quiz in Guelph scheduled at the end of March.

We strongly encourage our more advanced members to travel to the Senior Education sessions held in January - April in Guelph.

Please Remember:  All Willow Creek Pony Club members are required to attend 60% of our scheduled Branch Education sessions in order to participate in Testing and Regional activities.

TESTING

All Canadian Pony Club members can progress through 4 progressive levels, beginning with E Level.  Willow Creek Pony Club offers testing in the Spring and Fall.  All Pony Club tests consist of a written portion, a stable management section, and a riding portion with a passing mark of 65%.  There is an added cost for testing in order to pay the two Examiners required for the day and possible mileage fees (total cost for one examiner - 2017 is $25-$30).

Testing is a great opportunity for Pony Club members of all ages to learn new equine skills and demonstrate riding abilities.  For more information about the Pony Club Testing procedures, please visit the CPC website and click on their Education & Testing link:   www.canadianponyclub.org .

REGIONAL EVENTS

Our members attend a number of Regional events or competitions each year throughout the Western Ontario Region (WOR).

Quiz:  A one day event in March, without horses, when pony club members compete individually as well as in teams to test their equine knowledge.  Top 10 competitors receive ribbons, both individually and as a team.  For 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 - many of our Willow Creek members received individual ribbons- including first place in their divisions.  Also, each year our Willow Creek teams won ribbons for our club!  Way to go - Willow Creek Pony Club!

Prince Phillip Games (PPGs):  This is a mounted event in July where pony club members compete in various games on horseback.  Teams are made up of 4 members, and each member rides a pony in different types of relay games (mounts must be 14'2" or less).

D-Rally:  A great opportunity in August to participate in a mounted event with riders demonstrating their abilitities to complete tests in the areas of dressage, stadium, and cross country. All pony club members try to come to this event either as a competitor or as a groom.  There is also a C-level Rally for the senior members.

Dressage:  A one day event in July when pony club members bring their horse/pony to compete and test their skills on the flat. (Often the same weekend as Show Jumping).

Show Jumping:  A one day event in July when pony club members and their horse/pony compete in stadium jumping .

Tetrathlon:  A competition in May that includes riding, swimming, air pistol target shooting and running.

Le TREC:  In the Fall, Pony Club members have the opportunity to compete in orienteering, and work in teams while on horseback.
